What inspires you?

Seeing other people do things that are amazing. Whether it’s something like helping other people or just doing well for themselves like people that exercise a lot. That inspires me to at least want to do the same.

Tell me about an event that changed your life?

I had something come up where it was like: Oh, you almost died. And it made me check myself, my lifestyle. I had to be on antibiotics for a while, I started eating healthier. Even staying away from people that were bad influences. It led me down a better path.

How much do you walk on average per day and how does walking influence your life?

I try to at least walk on four out of five days during my lunch break. It goes hand in hand with knowing that I need to be more active to be more healthy. I use that time to eliminate some anxiety and to feel better. Most of the time I do that with my dog. On the weekends I take my dog and walk at the beach and it gets me out of the house and into nature.

Walking means mobility for me. Getting from one place to another. I am a big sight seer and traveler so I like to walk around different cities and experience them on foot. I am also on my feet a lot being a teacher, coaching kids and talking them on trips.

I hiked up to the summit of Mt. Whitney a few years back. It was pretty difficult for me since it is so far and you get into altitude. I hiked all day, 14 hours total. But I made it and it gave me confidence.
